Cali

Soph and I are taking a personal day today. I don’t know WHAT I was thinking getting home at midnight and NOT planning for the next day off. Luckily, it’s not a problem re: work.

I am convinced my child is an alien. She barely pees, eats, drinks or sleeps. On our two flights out to Cali, Mommy slept almost the entire time; Sophie slept for all of 20 minutes. She watched movies (Thank God for portable DVD players, Amen.). On the second flight, I had given her ¼ tablet of Dramamine which did absolutely nothing. On the way back home, I upped it to ½ tablet (still within dosage regulations, not to worry) and that worked. Finally.

Yesterday, crabby cakes was whining because we had no chocolate chip muffins. The only thing she’ll eat for breakfast. Mind you, we had yogurt and pop tarts and cereal and pancake mix and bananas but who am I kidding? No. Only chocolate chip muffins would do. Sophie exclaimed to me, “You can’t let me starve forever!” I told her to call the hotline. And then I went on a 20 minute search for the fucking muffins: CVS, Ralphs, and finally Target. I know, I’m a sucker and she rules the roost.

Other than that, she was pretty much an angel. We were go-go-go all the time; trying to fit everything in. The trip seemed short at first – Wed through ½ day Monday – but it doesn’t seem short when you’re planning it, depending on the kindness of your friends and their already busy kid/work schedules in crowded homes to put you up; arranging for neighbors to care for the animals; etc. I am very thankful to my very bestest friends Kim & Summar for putting up with us:) and driving us around/letting us borrow cars.

Speaking of cars, I drove Kim’s Nissan Rogue and I love it. It’s a “cross-over” vehicle and it drives like a sports car, but has the room of an SUV. New to me. Now my car is only what, 2-3 years old? But when it dies (hopefully not for a long time, truthfully), I want one like that. Hyundai’s version, the Veracruz, is much pricier than Nissan’s. Oh well; hopefully I won’t have to make this decision for a while.

You know what else I did? I took my fully-charged digital camera with me on the trip and left my memory card in the computer at home. So, Summar has all the pics and we’ll have to wait as she hardly has her hands free with a toddler and baby who eats non-stop and hardly sleeps. Sapphire is just like Sophie was: a total party girl who always needs to know what is going on; afraid she’s going to miss out on something if she closes her eyes. But Auntie Farrell can usually get Sapphie to sleep within five minutes. The trick? The butt pat. Worked with Soph too. Speaking of, Sapphire is seriously the cutest, prettiest baby I have seen since Soph (though brother Jayden was/is pretty darn handsome as well). And Sophie is so, so good with her: singing lullabies, holding hands (Sapphie loves to hold hands), etc. She would make a great big sister and I’m almost sad that I will likely never give her that chance. (And I don’t want to think about FB & W. giving her that chance either). Of course, it’s easy to say, “Oh I want a baby sister” and less easy when Sophie is like, “Mommy, Mommy, do this do this” and I’m like, HELLO? Do you SEE that my hands are full? Well that’s Summar’s life, God bless her! Though Jayden is pretty good about entertaining himself – much better than Soph is doing right now, I must say. Right now she wants her dad to come over and play and uh, no. Can we say awkward?

Oh! Auntie Kimmie had this leapfrog computer game and Sophie would spell on it and be like, “Mommy, what does P-R-Q-L spell?” I’m like, “Uh…purrqool.” ??

Why do kids never want to watch a movie when the grown-ups need to get Very Important Things Done such as Blogging? Hello, Priorities!

Gotta go – more random thoughts later, esp. about how Tattoo Boy texted me fucking 11 times on my trip and I responded um, like twice. Dude. Leave me alone, stalker!
